September is Interstitial Cystitis i.e( Painful Bladder Syndrome or Bladder Pain Syndrome month)
It’s a chronic inflammatory bladder condition that presents itself with symptoms such as stabbing pain, frequency, urgency, bladder pain , bladder spasms , urethral pain, aching, dysuria , haematuria and retention. The person will feel pain in the bladder, lower abdomen or lower back. Sometimes the pain can refer to other areas like leg etc.
This condition affects all ages and sexes. Doctors usually start out checking to see if you have a urinary tract infection as the symptoms are the same. If the results are negative , your doctor may proceed with cystoscopy and biopsy to rule out cancer and other issues. Cystoscopy with hydrodistention is helpful to check if the person has interstitial cystitis or not.
It’s a painful disease. The person may have severe constant pain, using washroom like 60-70 times a day, urethral burning etc. In severe cases it may leave people bedridden and unable to have functional life. And sadly it has no cure.
To live with disease you need a constant support and a good medical care.
